Pocket Habitat is an independent English-language field guide for people creating native plantings in front yards, side yards, patios, mailbox beds, and other constrained spaces. Version 1 focuses on the U.S. Mid-Atlantic.
What makes the site different
We begin with conditions and design constraints—not with a long generic list. Each plant is considered for light, moisture, mature height, growth habit, seasonal structure, and its likely role in a small composition.
How the work is produced
Profiles are researched from public datasets and regional educational sources, then rewritten and organized around a practical question: how might this plant behave in a small designed bed? We do not invent first-hand trials, professional credentials, or certainty that the source data does not provide.
Limits
Pocket Habitat is educational, not a substitute for a local horticulturist, landscape architect, arborist, engineer, veterinarian, or extension specialist. County-level native status, legal restrictions, toxicity, availability, and site safety require separate verification.
